The third level of reading is about examining the book in-depth. I’ll be honest – I’m not great at this level of reading, but I’m always trying to improve….In particular, this level requires us to actively read the book and “the more active the reading the better” (Adler). I’m a big fan of just making the book my own by highlighting text, linking arguments, and synthesising information through marginalia.
I enjoyed reading this but be careful about the affiliate links sprinkled in the narrative. I had become aware of the author as he had been making some interesting videos around improving typing (and mechanical keyboards) and it was a rabbit hole from there.
Nevertheless, he has written about improving the reading but has no mention about the annotation part and using technology tools to improve the retention (of whatever you read). There are numerous approaches to this vexing problem but it may work for you.
