Why is it hard for people to explore?

The status quo, if it rewards you consistently, is a powerful motivator to keep it as it is. There is no “higher-calling” to explore or improve. Or amplify.

I reached out to two major newsletter pushers (they are indie-developers) about them having their Telegram channel. I even offered to help them with automation and curation. However, it was next to impossible to drill any sense to have them look at the medium. They might have done some “research” and failed to grasp its significance. Based on current estimates, Telegram is close to a billion users, trailing behind WhatsApp and Meta but definitely three times as big as Twitter.

While WhatsApp has pushed its Channels, there is definitely a palpable excitement around the largest chat application. This isn’t an apples to apples comparison because WhatsApp sucks. Yet, I cannot understand that creators hope and expect to reach a sizeable audience without automation. I automate channels and it is difficult/impossible to grow it inorganically. I have moved beyond subscriber numbers, though.

The same disdain I find from the “social media channels” too; they are incredibly lazy to explore an option and rely on “growth hacks” gleamed from SEO infested spam on Google. It’s surprising indeed.

So status quo helps. It is easier to stick to “Instagram” and make reels and hope/expect that the faceless algorithm will show more of it to other users hungry for content.
