Microsoft just laid off one of its responsible AI teams
Microsoft laid off its entire ethics and society team within the artificial intelligence organization as part of recent layoffs that affected 10,000 employees across the company, Platformer has learned.
The move leaves Microsoft without a dedicated team to ensure its AI principles are closely tied to product design at a time when the company is leading the charge to make AI tools available to the mainstream, current and former employees said.
As always, the news around layoffs saddens me. However, as the title goes, these AI ethical “initiatives” are mere window dressing events, like corporate show ponies, which can’t race or be put to any useful farm work. They are paraded for investors and a noisy useless mainstream media that rakes up issues without adding any value to the individual.
The reading of the article is a pain; as always, it ends up going into circles. However, as most of the write ups here are scheduled into future posts, you’d see this around May. By that time, this “news” would have been lost.
Please remember that there is nothing open about Open AI and nothing transparent about “transparency”. The western ethical models have no place outside the west, and it is foolhardy to assume they have any impact either locally or “globally”.
